5. Club History
Founded on February 2, 1914, Paysandu Sport Club (PSC, Paysandu or Papão) is a Brazilian multi-sport association based in the city of Belém, capital of Pará. The club was the one that most benefited the economic sector of the state and is also the most remembered in the northern region, being the 35th best ranked in the CBF.
An important meeting was held on February 19, 1914, at the residence of President Dr. Deodoro de Mendonça, to decide the structure of the club's uniform, which was as follows: blue and white shirt in vertical stripes, the club's badge with the initials "PEC" at chest height and white shorts.
At this same meeting, Paysandu changed from "FOOT-BALL CLUB" to "SPORT CLUB". When a letter was read to the assembly asking for Paysandu's affiliation to the Paraense Football League, the idea of the change arose, which, after fierce debates, put to a vote, was approved by a majority of votes. And that's how our very dear Paysandu Sport Club came about: Which was “FOOT-BALL CLUB” for 17 days.
On June 14, 1914, at 4 pm, at the inauguration of the Ferreira & Comandita field, the club played its first game. With a lot of people and an overcrowded field, the godmother Mille Isolina Coutinho christened the place with champagne. Then, the 1914 championship, the first Paysandu x Remo in the history of football in Pará. The Doctor. Deodoro de Mendonça, representing the Independente de Belém, kicked off.
The First Team: Genaro Bayma de Moraes, Eurico Romariz (goalkeeper), Sylvio Serra de Moraes Rego, Jaime Bastos Cunha, Moura Palha (Gigi), George Mitchell, Matheus, Maurilio de Souza Guimarães, José Pinheiro Garcia, Hugo de Leão and Arthur Pereira Moraes.
The following year, Paysandu began to show its strength, and did not stop collecting titles and victories. The Greatest Champion of the Amazon has always been ahead of its rival in titles, despite being founded years later.
